Aishwarya Rai is set to become the Indian face of Barbie. With this she joins a league of select Hollywood beauties who have been given Barbie their faces.
Aishwarya Rai is a leading Indian actress who was once called the most beautiful woman on earth. She was also a Miss World title winner.
Besides being one of the more successful actresses in Bollywood she has also won acclaim in Hollywood.
Her latest Hollywood release Pink Panthers has done relatively well at the box office. Barbie is a fashion doll manufactured by Mattel, Inc. and launched in March 1959.
American businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration.
Barbie has been an important part of the toy fashion doll market for nearly fifty years, and has been the subject of numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody of the doll and her lifestyle. In recent years, Barbie has faced increasing competition from the Bratz range of dolls.
There are reports that the representatives for the actress are reportedly in negotiations with the toy giant, Mattel, as it plans to transform the iconic doll into a Bollywood star and sell it throughout India. Aishwarya Rai will have a Barbie modelled after her, titled “Bollywood Barbie”, reported The Telegraph.
