It is raining awards on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but the green-eyed Bollywood beauty seems to be holding an umbrella!

The French Government has conferred prestigious ‘Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres’ honour on her. But Ash has declared that she will not be able to receive the award just yet. The second highest civilian award of France is a big thing, but the move is no snub.

Ash had said to France, “Thank-you, but not now!”

She explained, “I wanted my entire family — and that includes my parents, brother, sister-in-law, my husband and his parents, sister and brother-in-law — to be there. My father has been unwell and I wanted him to be there at this important moment.”

Having given her reason, she added, “It will be a glorious moment. But not without my father!”

It was Vishal Bhardwaj who took out the best from Tabu in ‘Maqbool’ and Kareena Kapoor in ‘Omkara’. Vishal took up direction in 2002 with the children’s film ‘Makdee’ and since then he had always wanted to work with Aishwarya Rai. He was the music composer on a project with her that got shelved.

Finally, Vishal and Ash have teamed up together for a film titled as ‘Timbuctoo’ that Vishal had approached Aishwarya in the past. But that film never materialized. Talking about the project with Vishal, Aishwarya said “Vishal and I have wanted to work together ever since he was the music composer on a project that got shelved. We had promised one another that I would star in his film whenever he turned director”.

Although Aishwarya Rai Bachchan picked up the highest civilian honour in India the Padma Shri, who knew that she would also be receiving an honor in France? That’s right; Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has recently been conferred with the prestigious French award, the Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres.

Unfortunately, the actress has been unable to enjoy the awards which have been bestowed upon her. She has confirmed that she’s not going to go to get the award until her father Krishna Raj Rai recovers from his illness and accompanies her to the ceremony. In a bold, but rather admirable move.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has informed the French government of her inability to pick up the award. For one of the most well-known Bollywood actresses, her family has always been her priority. So it’s no surprise that she wants her entire family, including parents, brother, sister-in-law, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan to be beside her.

More than the Government of India’s recognition of her distinguished contribution to cinema, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is tickled by husband Abhishek’s acknowledgement of her Padma Shri on Republic Day.

When the civilian honours were announced, Bachchan Jr was shooting in Orcha near Jhansi and Aishwarya was in Chennai. And from there he sent his lovely wife a bouquet of flowers with an affectionately penned note. “It was addressed to Padma Shrimati,” said Aishwarya with a peal of laughter.

When she flew into Mumbai on Monday morning, waiting to greet her at the airport were more flowers and another heartfelt message. “This one was from Pa,” revealed the pleased actress, “He wrote that this was the fifth Padma Shri in the family. Dadaji (Harivansh Rai Bachchan) got it first, Pa got it twice, then Ma (Jaya Bachchan) and now me … the award is very special to the family and I’m humbled to receive such high honour from the country.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been invited by the makers of Pink Panther 2 to the première of the film in the US. She will also tour US and Europe with comedian Steve Martin to promote the film.

This development sets aside rumors that the former Miss World is being sidelined by the makers of Pink Panther 2 by avoiding her in the posters and promos.

The actress will be touring Madrid, Paris, Moscow, and Berlin to promote the film.Though the invitation had been extended to her husband Abhishek Bachchan he would not be joining her due to other commitments. Ash’s presence in the promo tour will prove that her participation in the film is appreciated by the makers of Pink Panther, setting aside the rumors of her being sidelined.

What could not happen seven years back is happening now. Vishal Bharadwaj had unsuccessfully tried to make a film with Aishwarya Rai in 2002. That project could not materialize, but both Ash and Vishal – respectful of each other’s talents – promised they would work together whenever a right project came along.

Well, that project has now come along and is set to take the shape of a film. After finishing his Kaminay with Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra , Vishal would work with Ash. The project is not likely to go on floors soon, but will roll by the end of this year.

Before that Ash has a number of films to shoot for. She is presently committed to Mani Ratnam’s Ravana and Shankar’s Robot . She is set to pair with Akshay Kumar in a Vipul Amrutlal Shah film. She has also given her nod to directors Abhinay Deo (director of Delhi Belly ) and Rituparno Ghosh .

Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan has come up with a new nickname for his beautiful wife. In honour of her winning the Padma Shri Award, he has named her Padma Shrimati. She is said to be delighted. Other Bollywood winners of the award were Akshay Kumar and sixties naatch girl Helen.
