DUBAI — Another proposal for a film based on the life of Benazir Bhutto was given the thumbs down yesterday by Asif Ali Zardari, husband of the slain ex-premier of Pakistan.

Officials close to the family told Khaleej Times that Zardari and his family would not offer any help to UTV, an India-based production house, to make a film on the leader, assassinated in December last, since a documentary on her life was currently being made by a US-based production house.

Ashish Mehta, lawyer of Zardari, told KT, “It has been reported in the media that an Indian company is producing a film on the life of Benazir Bhutto, in which (Bollywood actress) Aishwarya Rai is supposed to play Benazir Bhutto.”

Aishwarya Rai had started her journey in bollywood films in 2008 with her success in the last few years. Her films Dhoom -2, opposite Hrithik Roshan was extremely successful and although the film Umrao Jaan did not do that well in box office, her performance in the film was well appreciated by the cinematic audience.

In 2008, her first film Jodha Akbar, opposite Hrithik Roshan was very successful. She depicted the royal style of living of Rajasthani women in the historical film. She exhibited both her beauty and her pardanashin image. There was controversy relating to the story that was depicted in the Jodha Akbar and also the relationship of Jodha with Akbar. Hrithik Roshan was sublime in his performance and Aishwarya Rai complemented him with her majestic performance.

Mumbai, June 10: After playing Hrithik Roshan`s princess in `Jodha Akbar` and sharing the same frame with husband Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Sarkar Raj’, Aishwarya is all set take charge and fly solo again as she has been offered to play one of the most controversial and influential character that the world of politics has ever seen, i.e. Benazir Bhutto.

Married into the first family of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been often touted as the most influential celebrity wife. Coupled with this, Ash’s awe-inspiring beauty makes this former Miss World a top contender for the most sought after role.

According to our sources, the project will be produced by UTV. Prominent lyricist Neelesh Misra of ‘Johnny Gaddaar’ and ‘Jannat’ fame has been approached to pen down the script.

Mumbai, June 10 (IANS) Plans are afoot to bring Aishwarya Rai and Meryl Streep together in an American production of “Chaos”, Colin Serreau’s 2002 French movie.

Says a source, “They ran the concept with Meryl and Ash and they were game. They need to Americanise the theme because ‘Chaos’ was a very French movie. But, yes, in principle Ash is on for this film.”

Ash is slated to play a sex worker in the film.

Another international project Aishwarya has agreed to is Roland Joffe’s “Singularity” with Brendan Fraser.

Ash says she has asked for the final draft of the script. “Now the time factor has to be worked out. The time they want is devoted to Mani (Ratnam) Sir’s project. New dates have to be worked out. There’re so many projects that I want to do but because of the dates or a delay I can’t. There’re only that number of assignments I can take on. I’ve never done more work than I can do. I never can.”

Bangkok: The Bachchan family seems very excited about their Unforgettable world tour next month. However, interestingly other Bollywood stars are just dropping out of that tour.

Since it’s announcement at IIFA 2007, Unforgettable – a world tour featuring the three Bachchans’ -Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya has been in the news more for stars dropping out of the event.

When the tour was announced last year in Yorkshire Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu were also part of the tour but now both the actresses have opted to drop out.

There was also news of Saif Ali Khan joining the team and later backing out.

Nonetheless, the organisers have managed to rope in Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit for a few specific shows in the US and Canada. In what will be a treat for fans, Aishwarya and Madhuri will be performing live to their popular dance number Dola Re from Devdas.

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, whose much awaited film Sarkar Raj was released yesterday, does not feel that he should always be paired with his wife Aishwarya Rai in a husband and wife role.

“Just because we’re husband and wife doesn’t mean we should play the same roles in all our films,” Abhishek told IANS in an interview.

How different are you and your father in Sarkar Raj compared to Sarkar?
In Sarkar Raj, Pa (Amitabh Bachchan) would be seen with an added slouch. Pa had to be shown more aged than the first part of the film. A lot of time has passed and we see it in both our performances. My character has more responsibility on his shoulders unlike my earlier character, which was that of a hungry and lean man who was eager to prove himself. Now, my character is a confident and successful man.
