After four years of marriage and an equal number of headline grabbing appearances on the French Riviera, Aishwarya Rai will be going solo at the Cannes red carpet this time, thanks to husband Abhishek Bachchan’s packed schedule.

The Bollywood beauty won’t have Abhishek on her arm this time around as he will be busy shooting in Russia.

“I can’t go this year to Cannes with Aishwarya. We were there together last year to promote ‘Raavan’. But this year I will be shooting in Russia that time,” Abhishek said.

This will be the actress’ tenth consecutive Cannes outing and Abhishek is proud of the achievement.

“I am very proud of her. I think she is the only Indian actress to have that,” said the 35-year-old actor.

The couple made their debut at the coveted film festival in 2007, while Aishwarya’s first appearance was in 2002 with her ‘Devdas’ co-star Shah Rukh Khan.

But Bebo after showing an initial interest in the project didn’t get back to the director. A disheartened Madhur had put the project on the backburner. But when Aishwarya showed interest, the director galvanized and now it seems the project may well be on its way to the finishing line.

Forty nine films from 33 countries, but the largest producer of films, India, so far has no entry to the 64th Cannes Film Festival.

The only Indian ‘entry’ it seems, at this year’s prestigious festival will again be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Courtesy the cosmetic brand she endorses, this will be her 10th year when the actress will kiss the air and walk the red carpet.

After the Malayalam film Arimpara made a grand entry at Cannes in 2003, the gap (read: itch) of seven year was filled by Vikram Motwane’s Udaan last year.

It’s a difference in philosophies. European cinema is subtle, we simplify everything and spell it out. Their cinema is visual and often uses silence as a powerful tool.

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to attend the Cannes Film Festival, come May (11-22).

The light-eyed beauty is aware that her red carpet looks will draw a lot of attention, as usual. And if a highly placed source, who is part of a major design house’s team, is to be believed, then dressing up Ash these days is a bit of an added effort.

No, it’s not tantrums that the source was hinting at, but that the actor’s apparently fluctuating weight reduces her number of choices of red carpet outfits.

The source says that this was the case when Bachchan sprung a surprise by sashaying down the red carpet of the recent Academy Awards in LA, with hubby Abhishek.

The source said further, “The film will be an adaptation of the novel which is set during the 1880s but nevertheless, Ash wanted to do some research on the actor.”

Stardom isn’t exactly a cakewalk for our celebs. Take the handsome couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan for example. The duo have had a busy year churning one release after the other and now they don’t even have time to take a holiday off for their fourth wedding anniversary!

Abhishek, who is looking forward to the relase of his film Dum Maaro Dum on 22nd April, will be busy promoting the Bipasha Basu, Prateik Babbar and Rana Daggubati starrer. And to add to his cramped dates, he will immediately start shooting for Abbas-Mustan’s Players after DMD with a huge star cast of Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Omi Vaidya.

Last year, Abhi had taken Ash to the US on their anniversary. The year before that, the two were busy with Mani Ratnam’s Raavan but had managed to take some time off for themselves. On their first anniversary in 2008, Aishwarya had joined Abhishek in Miami as he was shooting for Dostana with John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.

He has been the man in shining armour for the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Abbie Cornish and Amanda Seyfried but guess who makes Ryan Phillippe’s heart miss a beat – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

“Aishwarya Rai looks beautiful in every film she does, albeit Indian or American,” says the 36-year-old.

His Bollywood knowledge doesn’t douse here. “I have heard of Irrfan Khan and Hrithik Roshan too. Irrfan has been working in Hollywood films since a while now, and Hrithik Roshan is hugely popular amongst the Indians living here.”

“Bollywood has its own brand of cinema which appeals to a billion people locally and millions of more people outside of the country. There is a humungous population that watches and enjoys Bollywood films, even outside of India. They make entertaining films, which not only run high on emotion, but spread a message as well,” says the actor, who says he “wouldn’t mind doing a dance move or two to lap up a Bollywood film.
