A stickler for discipline, punctuality and strict schedules during shooting Sanjay Bhansali is known to shoot through burning fevers and location setbacks, so that his actors’ dates don’t go awry. For the first time in his career as a filmmaker, Sanjay is voluntarily slackening his schedule for Aishwarya.

Later this week Aishwarya will be given a couple of days off at a time when she is required to shoot with Hrithik Roshan. A friend of Sanjay and Aishwarya says, “Aishwarya is not just a leading lady for Sanjay. After doing three films together they are family. Sanjay saw how stressed Aishwarya was, trying to balance Guzaarish with the time required to pitch in with her father-in-law for Paa. In fact, Mr Bachchan has been running around alone inviting the film fraternity for the premiere on December 3 since Abhishek has been shooting non-stop in Goa for Ashutosh Gowariker and Jayaji is in Delhi attending parliament.”

Aishwarya, in keeping with her status as an international star, has made appearances at Cannes, has a statue at Madame Tussauds and has appeared on David Letterman’s Late Show and on Oprah Winfrey in the past.

This time her husband Abhishek kept her company as he had been invited on the show with her. They had flown to the States last week to shoot for an episode on Oprah.

In February 2007, she won over Oprah with a sari. Oprah had enthusiastically volunteered to be draped in the sari, which she found sensuous. We wonder if Aishwarya will remember it and wear a sensuous drape to her show this time.

Aishwarya had spoken about living at home and the importance of family and this year, she can re-emphasise family values as the first couple of Bollywood may have much to say about their wedded bliss.

The actress is fuming because of director Vipul Shah, who has taken undue advantage with her role in ‘Action Replay’. Her recent ad for Lux along with hubby Abhishek has created quite a buzz both for the fact that it is their first ad together and looks very good. It pegs the star couple worth at Rs 25 crore. But as the actress points out, she has always taken her endorsement duties very seriously. “It has never been something I do on the side or as something to be done for two hours between other things. I try and make each one special, and so most of my associations have been for a long tenure—it’s been 10 years with Lux, seven, I think, with L’Oreal, and almost eight or nine years with Nakshatra (at the time their term ended I went with De Beers) . Coke and Pepsi alternated but they were all long tenures too. Now that I am back from shoots, I am in talks with some companies for the future.”

Wife Jaya, son Abhishek, daughter Shweta and her husband Nikhil — were in the capital on Monday to watch daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai perform at NDTV’s unveiling of “The Seven Wonders of India”.

Abhishek, clad in a black formal suit, sported a new clean-shaven look. The actor said it was for a new movie Ravana, a trilingual film in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi directed by Mani Ratnam.

“This look — it is actually for a movie that I am working on. This look is going to stay, at least for the time being,” Abhishek told IANS.

Wife Aishwarya said she loved him just the way he was. “He is my husband and I love him as he is.”

Abhishek reciprocated saying: “All men dance around their wives.”

More than the Government of India’s recognition of her distinguished contribution to cinema, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is tickled by husband Abhishek’s acknowledgement of her Padma Shri on Republic Day.

When the civilian honours were announced, Bachchan Jr was shooting in Orcha near Jhansi and Aishwarya was in Chennai.And from there he sent his lovely wife a bouquet of flowers with an affectionately penned note. “It was addressed to Padma Shrimati,” said Aishwarya with a peal of laughter.

When she flew into Mumbai on Monday morning, waiting to greet her at the airport were more flowers and another heartfelt message. “This one was from Pa,” revealed the pleased actress, “He wrote that this was the fifth Padma Shri in the family. Dadaji (Harivansh Rai Bachchan) got it first, Pa got it twice, then Ma (Jaya Bachchan) and now me … the award is very special to the family and I’m humbled to receive such high honour from the country.”

The Indian film star Abhishek Bachchan is up for his first world tour, saying he is looking forward to interacting with live audiences as this is more electric than just acting.’The difference between acting in films and stage shows is that you interact with live audiences and the experience is more electric. You get immediate reactions,’ Abhishek.

Titled ‘The Unforgettable’, the tour kicks off from Toronto July 18 and will have Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Riteish Deshmukh and Preity Zinta as its permanent members.
