Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Bachchan performed to live music in Guzaarish

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to love the bygone era. Be it the old-world charm that Aishwarya Bachchan portrayed in Devdas or Sonam Kapoor’s adaas in Saawariya, Bhansali has always made his love for the past very evident.

The filmmaker has once again got in touch with filmmaking as it was in the 1930s and 1940s in the Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Bachchan starrer Guzaarish. After getting Hrithik Roshan to play a wheelchair-bound paraplegic in Guzaarish, Bhansali has taken a step further, or shall we say backward, to choreograph several songs in the film. The director got Hrithik and Aishwarya to groove to live music with choreographer Pony Verma.

As Sanjay puts it, “It was a blast. I always had my music team with me whenever we were shooting songs. I would compose parts of the song on the sets, keeping in mind the meter of the lines, and we would improvise their picturisation as my music team played my compositions. Shail, the singer I introduced with Saawariya, would always be there to render my compositions.”

There were times in fact, when his lead actors would be singing their own lines too. Bhansali says. “My drummer and guitarist were always with me. It was quite like the early days of films when there would be a live orchestra playing as actors sung their own songs.”

A source reveals, “Bhansali sir demanded that we choreograph one specific song with live music. He mentioned the same to choreographer Pony Verma who was quite excited to experiment with live choreography as she had never done it before. While shooting the song, we had a singer and a guitarist on the sets. Normally the choreographer says 1,2,3,4 and the music starts, but here Hrithik and Aishwarya would start performing only when the singer would start singing.”

The source continues, “Initially Aishwarya and Hrithik freaked out when they heard this concept. But as soon as they started dancing to live music, they thoroughly started enjoying every moment of shooting the song.

While shooting, Aishwarya took keen interest and participated actively to understand minute details of the song. She would talk about the feel of the song and how we could further enhance it so that audience connects to it.

Bhansali has the last word. “As you can imagine, it was great fun shooting the songs and unlike the rumours that say Hrithik and I were constantly fighting, we were actually singing along quite happily,” he says.

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan started her filmy career in Tamil that was also coincidently Mani Ratnam’s movie ‘Iruvar’ starring opposite Mohanlal.

She did many Tamil movies but never lend her own voice. Now the actress has decided to dub in her own voice for her upcoming Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Raavana. Ash has recently winded up dubbing for the Hindi version of the film and is now all set to lend her voice for the Tamil Raavan. Her next movie in Tamil is Endhiran that also casts Superstar Rajinikanth.

The latest news is that Katrina has been signed as the brand ambassador of the prestigious Lux soap, which until now has been endorsed by Aishwarya. Now, Katrina will endorse Lux Purple Lotus & Cream, a soap infused with anti-ageing properties.

It may be recalled that Katrina replaced Ash as the face of the Nakshatra range of jewellery not long ago.

Remember the ‘Aunty Ji’ controversy where Sonam Kapoor had started referring to Aishwarya Bachchan as Aunty because she had starred opposite her father Anil Kapoor. Sonam has no backtracked and claims she never said anything of that kind. In a recent interview she said that a lot has been said and written about the issue and it has become very messy and dirty and she wouldn’t want to comment about the issue any more.

Sonam who has starred with Abhishek Bachchan in Delhi 6 said that she really respected Abhishek as a and has her best experiences working with him. She added that that she would always Aishwarya n a respectful manner and never call her an ‘Aunty.’ The controversy had taken an ugly turn when Aishwarya had made sure that Sonam misses the red carpet during the Cannes Film Festival as the face of L’Oreal in India.

Aishwarya had done this after Sonam Kapoor had commented that she was the young face of L’Oreal in India while Aishwarya Bachchan would appeal to the aged women. The former Miss World who has been the face of L’Oreal in India for a long time felt offended by this. She retarrated by making sure that Sonam didn’t walk the red carpet at Cannes with Penelope Cruz, Kerry Washington, Beyonce Knowles, Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johansson.

But their relationship with the actor contrasts like fire and water now, as Ash has cut off all connections with him ever since he married Abhishek Bachchan after an ugly break up. It was reported that Aishwarya was stripped of her endorsement deal with a jewellery brand in favour of Katrina Kaif Ash just can’t take that. She clarified clear and loud that she was not dropped but voluntarily backed out following complications in the company.

Aishwarya said that she chose not to renew the contract with the jewellery brand. She added that she decided not to renew the endorsement deal after the brand she had contract with and another jeweller that came under the brand parted ways.

In fact, Aishwarya is furious at the reports that she has been dropped by various brands due to her age. She said that no one has ever dropped her. She added that she decided to stop endorsing the Cola brand post marriage, as her hubby Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan were endorsing Cola rival brand.

The entire Bachchan family was present to cheer up Ash as she performed on some traditional numbers in the capital. Where she was dressed up in the traditional attire, Aishwarya Bachchan looked absolutely stunning and she performed with the dance troupe of world-class choreographer Shaimak Davar.

“Ash performed for nearly an hour to a medley of popular Bollywood number showcasing Indian culture, heritage and music. Apart from the Bachchans, the event was also graced by Aishwarya’s parents and celebrities like actor Kamal Haasan, fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Maharaja of Mewar Arvind Singh, Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, politician Amar Singh and artists Paresh Maity and Satish Gujral.”

Further the source told us, “The whole Bachchan and Rai family was quite happy to see the Aishwarya’s performance and also they were cheering up at Padma Shri awards but now all are back to Mumbai.”

NDTV’s popular figure Vikram Chandra and Abhigyan Prakash hosted the event and welcomed Ash by describing her as “another Indian wonder” apart from the seven wonders of India which include Jaisalmer Fort, the ancient Nalanda University, Red Fort, Konark Sun temple, Dholavira, Khajuraho, and the Meenakshi Temple. Also, two religious wonders — the Tawang monastery and the Golden Temple.
