Reputed fashion magazine Elle has dabbled in controversy over race after seemingly lightening the colour of Aishwarya Rai’s skin on the cover page of its recent issue. Aishwarya Rai, who is the leading Bollywood actress, adorns the cover page of the December issue of Elle Magazine India and apparently Aishwarya’s skin looks a lot lighter.
Fans of Aishwarya have raised a protest against the magazine alleging racial abuse. The magazine has tried to give out an impression that pale skin is preferable to darker skin and this has got a section of the people outraged.
Apart from the cover page, Aishwarya also appears pallid and a couple of shades lighter in a slew of photos that are sprawled inside the mag. It is believed that the magazine has bleached her complexion; something that is not going down well with her herd of fans.
Readers are taking a dig at Elle with most of them feeling outright annoyed at such an abominable act. One of the fans slams Elle citing, “It’s annoying because it seems like lighter skin is always in fashion as if darker skin is something to be frowned upon.”

Aishwarya Rai looked a stunner, teasingly wrapped in a blue sheer net sari at the debut Big Star Entertainment Awards in Andheri, Mumbai on Tuesday, December 21.

The 37-year-old former Miss World (1994) wore an embellished sari with sparkling accents and purple velvet bottom border. Her blouse was uncharacteristically revealing – with a very low neckline and nearly backless.

Aishwarya Rai.
She modesty kept her sari tightly wrapped around the shoulders shielding the décolletage, but her bare back enticed through the sheer sari.

Aishwarya accessorized with golden strappy heels, black clutch, stud earrings, a jeweled gold watch in her right arm and her signature multiple rings on both her hands.

Her reddish brown hair, styled in structured curls, draped her left shoulder. She wore shimmery pink lip gloss, thick eyeliner and silvery blue eyeshadow.

Katrina Kaif may be the cream of the season what with her item song ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ being played in every discotheque but if we talk of the numero uno actress then the Barbie Doll of Bollywood has still a lot of catching to do to match with the mantle of Aishwarya Rai.
In an online survey, former Miss World Aishwarya Rai has been voted as the Best Actress of 2010 for her stellar performance in the film ‘Guzaarish.’ Even though the film didn’t make a mark at the box office, the performances were hailed by the critics and certainly Aishwarya looked sublime in her role of Sophia.

Did Elle India Lighten Aishwarya Rai’s Skin?

December 22nd, 2010

By Jilawatan

Aishwarya Rai’s name is almost always preceded or followed by the phrase “the most beautiful woman in the world.” The 37-year-old Indian actress (and former Miss World) is without a doubt one of the most stunning women on the planet. But her appearance on the cover of December’s Elle India has caused some raised eyebrows.
Aishwarya is quite fair-skinned to begin with, yet she looks excessively pale on her latest cover. But before we start wagging fingers, let’s remember the Gabourey Sidibé Elle cover debacle. Perhaps this disparity in skin tone is also the work of some extreme studio lighting.
In contrast, Vogue India put out a dark-skinned issue this year and produced one of the 2010’s best covers. And as noted when we first reported on the groundbreaking issue, skin color is a sensitive topic in India. Nirupama Singh, an expert on the sociology of fashion told the Times UK: “Skin color matters a lot for women in India. Fairness is a very valuable thing here, looked on as desirable. The fashion world can be a big agent for change in this area.”

5 Disaster films of 2010: Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai sink

December 22nd, 2010

By Jilawatan

2010 was a year that saw the maturing audience preferring content over stars. When small-budget films and intellectual scripts saw thumbs up from the public, some over hyped films were bloopers. Here’s a look at 5 disaster films of 2010:
1. Kites: Riding on huge hype and hoopla, ‘Kites’ came bringing in a smouldering chemistry between Greek God Hrithik and the Mexican curry Barbara, but dearth of a good screenplay made the film lick dust at box office. It was one of the biggest duds of 2010.

Aishwarya Rai: Failure does not wipe off that mesmeric smile

Salman Khan, Shahrukh, Katrina Kaif are the ones who, hitherto, had a good 2010 with their respective films doing well at the box office. But the leading actress Aishwarya Rai hasn’t seen the kind of success she would have liked to see.
2010 was one of the busiest years of Aishwarya’s career with 4 of her films hitting the big screen. But unfortunately, for some reason or the other, the audience chose to stay away from the theatres with the exception of ‘Endhiran’.
All 3 of her Bollywood ventures namely ‘Raavan’, ‘Action Replayy’ and ‘Guzaarish’ sank at the cash box. The success of ‘Endhiran’ was credited to the larger-than-life presence of actor Rajinikanth.

Aishwarya Rai and I are not hypocrite: Preity Zinta

December 15th, 2010

By Jilawatan

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is well respected by almost everyone in the industry, she is probably among those few who have never been part of any cheap controversy, however since a long time we haven’t heard from the beautiful and talented actress, in a recent interview to a Mumbai based daily the actress opened up and shared about her journey in bollywood.

Preity says that she hasn’t been part of any star camps because she has never indulged in a relation with any male co-stars which is why she share a healthy and professional relation with everyone she works with, and everyone respect that.

Talking about Aishwarya Rai she said – “Ash is someone who I can call a friend”, Preity also said – “Ash is so confident and what I like best about her is her on-your-face attitude. Both of us are not hypocrites, and we appreciate that about each other. We both are head-strong and have an opinion about things, but we aren’t double-faced”.
