Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan says he feels humbled after receiving the NDTV Indian of the Year award on Wednesday night.

This year, to coincide with its 21st anniversary, NDTV also honoured Indian icons of the last 21 years - among them, Amitabh Bachchan.

On his blog, Bachchan wrote about the ceremony, which he attended with his wife, Jaya, and his daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

“NDTV Indian of the Year acknowledging 21 years of the existence of the channel and simultaneously acknowledging Indians that have been an inspiration for the country in these 21 years!!”

Amitabh Bachchan invaded your living rooms when he forayed into television and anchored the quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. He again proved his dominance and mastery over his craft when he got involved in the Colors’ ‘Bigg Boss’. His son Abhishek Bachchan followed suit and is now anchoring a game show ‘c’ in Colors. And, the latest hearsay is that now it’s turn of the Bachchan Bahu Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to embark on her small-screen journey.
Reports have been doing the rounds that the ‘Most Beautiful Woman on Earth’ is going to host a chat show Colors and thus launch her TV debut.
A source quips, “Right from the time they signed Amitabh Bachchan for Bigg Boss, the channel had decided to have Abhishek and Aishwarya as well.” Despite her gruelling work-schedule, Ash, reportedly, has given her nod even though her spokesperson has dismissed such news.

Rumours were abuzz that Ash will shake a leg to her sasur ji Amitabh Bachchan’s famous 1981 Laawaris number ‘Apni To Jaise Taise’ in Nadiawala’s ‘Houseful’. But the floating rumours have been put to rest by sources that claim that Ash has still not okayed the part. A source close to Ash said, “Aishwarya has been approached by Sajid Khan but she has yet to revert back to them. She is busy with the shooting of ‘Guzaarish’, ‘Action Replay’ and ‘Endhiran’.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala is said to have bought the rights of the song already.

If Ash nods her head in agreement then this would be her third item number after ‘Ishq Kamina’ with Shah Rukh Khan and ‘Kajra Re’ with hubby Abhishek and Father-in-law Amitabh.

Sushmita Sen will appear in an item number in Sajid Khan’s film, Housefull, dancing to the remixed version of the famous song ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taisi’.

Confirmation of Sushmita’s appearance in the song – first made famous by Amitabh Bachchan in the 1981 blockbuster Lawaaris – puts persistent rumours of Aishwarya Rai’s appearance in the Housefull item number to rest.

While Aishwarya Rai was indeed approached to appear in the song, sources say she has turned the offer down, allegedly due to the link the song has with her father-in-law. She is also currently busy with a filming schedule including Guzaarish, Action Replay and Endhiran. Had Aish agreed, it would have been only her third item number appearance, following ‘Ishq Kamina’ (with Shahrukh Khan in the film Shakti - The Power) and ‘Kajra Re’ (with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in the film Bunty Aur Babli).

The song ‘Apni to Aise Taise, Thodi Aise Ya Waise’ for the film ‘Houseful’. Amitabh Bachchan had performed on this song with yester year actress Aruna Irani on this number and the song was a sure shot hit. As the Bachchan Parivaar had gone for the just released film ‘Raan’ where it was confirmed that Aishwarya would in deed perform on that number.

When it comes to the Bachchans, it all runs in the family.

The news is that Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan will do an item number in comedian-turned-director Sajid Khan’s upcoming multistarrer, Housefull.

The song to which Ash will be gyrating is said to be dad-in-law Amitabh Bachchan’s hit number, Apni toh jaise taise, from his 1981 hit Laawaris.

The film’s producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, has bought the rights of the song, though Sajid Khan is mum. “I am neither confirming nor denying the news. We will make an announcement at the right time,” says Khan.

Of late, the Bachchans have been going out of their way to push the prospects of each other. Last week, when Abhishek Bachchan made his debut as a TV show host–Bingo on Colors channel–Big B was his first guest.

Obviously, Abhishek needs all the push.

In the latest Bollywood buzz the much hype of Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Rann’ has come to a revelation, in the premiere of the film his beautiful daughter-in-law and actress Aishwariya Rai came to accompany him.

This film is done by maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who reflects in ‘Rann’ about media’s lifestyle. Here he portrays senior Bachchan in the role of Vijay Harshvardhan Malik, the owner of a news channel whose words have been the ‘voice of truth’, for the people of the country. Consequently relating how he was forced to lie under pressure on his channel, viewed by lakhs of people across the country.

According to Amitabh the film is not about an attempt to show media in a negative light and states that he has immense respect for the media, adding, “I respect the media and feel that media is the conscience of the country. However, the medium of the media is very strong which puts a lot of responsibility on media persons as to what they report.”
