Last year it was dhak dhak girl Madhuri Dixit-Nene who received the prestigious award Padma Shri from the President of India and now this time around its going to be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who would be honoured with this award.

My Father with the Padma Bhushan the first, then the Padma Shri for me, followed again by the Padma Bhushan to me some years later, Jaya’s Padma Shri and now Aishwarya’s. This must be a record for the country. 5 Padma Awards in one family. God has been very kind to us. The people of this land have been very kind to us. We are humbled and with bended knee and bowed heads acknowledge your affection and care and love.”

I am not playing Sita AishwaryaOn the promotional trail for her Hollywood flick Pink Panther 2, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan candidly told reporters at a press conference that her character in Mani Ratnam’s next release Ravana is not called Sita.

“The name of my character is not Sita. I am playing a woman who has similarities with the Sita of Ramayana,” she said but then refused to give further details about the production which also stars her husband Abhishek.

“I can’t give any details about Ravana at the moment. You will have to wait and watch. All I can say that it is an intense film set in today’s time and Mani has given a totally new perspective to the art of storytelling,” she said.

Ravana will be the fifth film where the husband–wife jodi will be shown on screen. When asked about her pairing opposite Abhishek, Aishwarya said they never played a conventional couple on-screen.

The musical duo of Vishal-Shekhar, who talked Abhishek into the groovy hip hop number Right Here Right Now, has also convinced Ash to sing for them.

“You won’t believe what an amazing voice Ash has! We’ve talked her into singing a song for us and we’re going to record it very soon,” says Shekhar. And is it in a movie that they’re composing for? “No, no. Right now, we’re only recording it, before Ash changes her mind! We’ll see what to do with it in the future,” he laughs.

And their hip hop number for AB Sr for the upcoming Aladdin – is it going to be in Hindi, English or a mix of both? “Sab kuch hai usme. Mr Bachchan has a phenomenal voice and there’s so much music in him,” replies Shekhar.

Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan graced the inauguration of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Medical Centre in Mumbai recently. The multi-specialty medical centre is being run by Anil Ambani owned Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.

Speaking on the occasion, Amitabh Bachchan regaled the invitees with his usual tongue-in cheek humor. “Having spent many anxious moments for the better part of my life in the intensive care units of various hospitals, I find this facility to be absolutely extraordinary,” Bachchan said.

Tina Ambani, hospital chairperson, has taken the initiative to build a world class medical facility that will not only cater to various specialty needs of the patients, but also undertake global medical research.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, beaming with joy after being felicitated with the Padma Shri, shared her sentiments, “I am feeling absolutely overjoyed. It’s all thanks to my well-wishers and the blessings of my parents and in-laws. I hope to live up to the expectations of all of them.”

The hospital project was initiated by in 1999 by heart surgeon Dr Nitu Mandke. The project was taken over by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group (ADAG) after Dr Mandke’s death in 2003
