sonamashRemember the ‘Aunty Ji’ controversy where Sonam Kapoor had started referring to Aishwarya Bachchan as Aunty because she had starred opposite her father Anil Kapoor. Sonam has no backtracked and claims she never said anything of that kind. In a recent interview she said that a lot has been said and written about the issue and it has become very messy and dirty and she wouldn’t want to comment about the issue any more.

Sonam who has starred with Abhishek Bachchan in Delhi 6 said that she really respected Abhishek as a and has her best experiences working with him. Anil-Kapoor-Calls-AishwaryaMore reasons why to catch the IIFA’s on your tivo @ star plus : Anil was not too happy when Amitabh Bachcan slammed his “Slumdog Millionaire” on his blog. Then daughter Sonam was reportedly edged out of her Cannes red carpet appearance by Aishwarya, which left Sonam heartbroken.
At the IIFA Awards, Anil Kapoor was called on the stage to announce the winner of the Best Female Actor of the Decade. He opened the envelope and declared the winner, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but later called her as fantastic, fabulous, mind blowing, mind blasting… chaiwali.

Without showing any grudge on her face Ash instantly replied, “Fantastic, fabulous, mind blowing, mind blasting… chaiwala.”

The audience had a forced laughter on their face, but nonetheless, many felt that Anil Kapoor should not have addressed a lady the way he did.

aishwarya-rai-ever-so-gorAishwarya Rai looked gorgeous holding hands with hunky husband Abhishek Bachchan at the Mumbai airport before the couple jetted off to Macau, China, on June 10 for IIFA.

The airport was abuzz with excitement during the am hours with a huge number of Bollywood personalities leaving for IIFA. Others spotted at the airport included Anil Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Lara Dutta, Sonam Kapoor, Ritesh Deshmukh, Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan and Tanavi Aazmi.

Aishwarya Rai paired a black satin puff sleeve top with dark blue flared jeans. She may have looked hot but she was prepared for the chill of business class jet travel– holding a tan leather jacket. She matched her accessories – tan leather tote and peeptoe platforms.

Her sunglasses rested on her head. Her gorgeous medium brown hair, styled in loose waves with a middle parting, framed her face cascading down the shoulders. She wore glossy pink lipstick, pink blush, cat-eye liner and lots of mascara.

Dev Patel is better than Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai

dev-patel-is-better-than-anil-kapoor-aishwarya-raiWhile we may or may not endorse it, he has beaten the likes of Shabana Azmi, Om Puri, Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and of course the current darling of the West — Freida Pinto — to bag the top spot. No mean achievement for a first-time film actor!

But, while many may rejoice at the fact, is Dev’s win really something to do with his special talent? Or, is his just a case of ‘flavour of the season’? Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia thinks it is the latter. “These lists are generally compiled not on the basis of calibre, but rather it’s about what’s ‘in’ now. SM has been a huge success, and Dev and Freida have been all over the place. It’s all about clout and recall value. You cannot definitely compare one-film wonders like Freida and Dev to seasoned actors like Shabanaji and Om Puriji,” says the filmmaker.

Abhishek Ash and Vivek in the same filmCall it rumours or hear-say but the word is that the shooting for film “Tansen” will begin next month and it will star Abhishek, Aishwarya, Anil Kapoor and even Vivek Oberoi.

The film is set to be shot in Bangkok first and then would also be shot on other international locations in Australia and New Zealand. The historical epic is going to be a mega project and will be one of the costliest films ever made in Bollywood.

The film is based on the life of Mughal court singer Tansen and has Abhishek as the lead character. It is directed by Satish Kaushik and produced by Rajshri and even Sony is supposed to have put money in it.

Apart from this Barjatya project, Abhishek is working alongside wife Aishwarya in Mani Ratnam’s much-hyped “Ravana”. It is also rumoured that he and Ash have been cast in a remake of the Amitabh-Jaya starrer “Abhimaan”.

Anil Kapoor scores over Aishwarya Rai

December 19th, 2008

With his film Slumdog Millionaire

shining among the top 10 films of the weekend on three continents, Anil Kapoor, who plays a complicated quiz show host in it, has set a record for an Indian actor. Not even Aishwarya Rai, who got miles of free publicity in the West thanks to her appearance on David Letterman show four years ago, can come anywhere near the success Kapoor has achieved. Her biggest success in North America, the 2004 romantic comedy Bride & Prejudice grossed  $6.6 million in North America about half of what Slumdog has nabbed in its early run.

True, Sabu (The Thief of  Bagdad, 1940) and Persis Khambatta (Star Trek, 1979) were featured in bigger movies than Slumdog but by the time these films were made they had settled down in the West.
