And he held the audience’s attention with his sense of humour. The superstar began by first thanking Amitabh Bachchan, the chief guest who was launching the soundtrack composed by AR Rahman and lyrics written by Swanand Kirkire.

“Whenever I have acted with Amitji, in Andhaa Kanoon, Geraftaar and Hum, he’s always shown me a lot of love,” he said, adding, “I can’t take any major decision without consulting him. Whatever he told me when I met him in Lonavla, years ago, is something I’ll cherish in my heart forever.”

“I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have had in my career as an actor. It was also something I sought when I started working. I was being welcomed into the industry even before I went for the Miss World pageant. I keep reiterating that Miss India was not a way to enter Bollywood, because I had been getting offers before I went for the pageant. At that time, I was reluctant to enter Bollywood because I didn’t want to give up my studies,” she says, adding, “Later on, I learnt from my dear friend Rajeev that Mani wanted to cast me in Bombay and Dharmesh wanted me for Raja Hindustani, Yashji and Subhashji wanted to launch me. I had already been spoken to for these movies before I did Miss India. I had met Shekhar (Kapur), and he was making Bandit Queen at that time. He told me that I could get my degree, but that I would come back to Bollywood. He told me that he had done his C.A., but he was making movies, and he was sure that I would join movies too. Yashji used to tease me that I could do architecture, then design sets for them, and they would make me an actress. He told me that I would be in the movies. Everybody believed that I would be here, in Bollywood. After I did Miss World, I had six months off till college reopened, and I started considering film offers. I am glad I took the plunge because I am so much at home being an actor.”

1-aishwarya-raiBolywood’s beautiful actress Aishwarya Rai has got quite a few movies in her account like “Endhiran”, “Ravana”, “Action Replay” and “Guzaarish” to name a few.

Aishwarya reveals, “I have an undisclosed pride of my own, you know. I’ve always wanted to work after marriage and I couldn’t see why that should change after I tied the knot. Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not a hardcore feminist. I’m a humanist.”

The gorgeous actress maintains that throughout her career she has never given common quotes by saying, “I’m not ready for marriage now or marriage will happen only after five or six years.”

So, this is the reason why she always kept getting film endorsements even post marriage. Also, the filmmakers trusted the gorgeous lady’s commitment towards her work.

“Earlier, it was tough for a heroine to get work after marriage. Their so-called brand value would depreciate. That didn’t happen with me, as I’ve always aspired to push the career,” briefs Ash.

All praises for the indomitable spirit of Aishwarya Rai who braved the rough weather and continuous rains to shoot uninterruptedly for Mani Ratnam’s film Raavan in Cochin.

According to sources, the portions that were being shot required Ash to look drenched. The actress shot continuously in wet clothes, sometimes for as long as ten hours at a stretch because she had to film simultaneously for both the Hindi and Tamil version of the movie.

Needless to say, the long hours of shoot in the incessant downpour took a toll on the actress’s health and she developed fever. But Ash continued working despite director Mani Ratnam asking her to rest. She used to pop in a few pills and work throughout the day because she had to wrap the shoot in time and move on to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Guzaarish.

if it’s a minuscule role in a Hollywood film.

Your latest Hollywood outing sees you in an avatar which is far from your leading lady image…
It’s not about whether I’m the leading lady in a project or who my co-star is. For me, the film-maker, script and role are deciding factors. And I have always tried to defy the obvious and test myriad characters. That’s why there’s an Iruvar, Josh, Khakee, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Devdas, Raincoat, Chokher Bali and Shabd to name a few. As they have been saying in the West, ‘She is not house-hunting in Hollywood’. In fact, I’ve never done that. I’ve not gone to them looking for work.
