With its fair skin and blue eyes, a Barbie has come to be regarded as a personification of all things pretty that being a girl is made out to be.

The Barbie quotient is so strong in our collective consciousness that celebs like Paris Hilton actually want to look like a real life version of the plastic sensation.

Clearly Barbie is a big deal. It’s been for 50 years and going by the number of pink boxes in children’s departmental stores, Barbie doesn’t need to worry its pretty head with thoughts of slowdown or meltdown.

That’s why they wanted to hold an event that was both cutting edge and reminiscent of one of the most iconic dolls of childhood.

Yes, that’s right-after 50 years, people still can’t help but get caught up in Barbie fever. We have already told you that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was going to be the face of ‘Bollywood Barbie’; but refused.

Aishwarya refuses to become BarbieBollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has declined to be immortalised as a Barbie doll due to her professional commitments.

It was earlier reported that representatives of the 35-year-old actress were in negotiations with Barbie’s manufacturer Mattel, who planned to give the iconic doll a Bollywood face. But the deal did not take off.

Since 1994 when Aishwarya won the Miss World title, the company has made numerous attempts to make a celebrity doll modelled on the Indian beauty. However, she could never get time for their endeavour, due to her professional commitments, she said.

Yet again on the doll’s 50th anniversary, Aishwarya was approached to appear decked up as a celebrity Barbie. “Mattel was keen to have the actress walk the ramp on Lakme Fashion Week ‘Barbie dolled up’ in a winning design as Single Likeness Barbie.

Aishwarya Rai to be model for new Bollywood Barbie doll

Is Ash the new BarbieWith her grey-green eyes and oh-so-perfect mannerisms, Aishwarya Rai might look like a doll, but now it’s her chance to be immortalised in plastic.

If all goes well, Ash might be the first Indian celebrity who will have a Barbie based on her. Sources said talks are on between the former beauty queen and Mattel Toys (India), though it might be a long time before this is finalised.

Mattel Toys India spokesperson however denied any current plans of bringing out an Ash-inspired doll.

In the West, celebrity Barbies are a big hit with replicas of several screen goddesses and pop princesses like Diana Ross, Liz Taylor, Cher, Beyonce etc hitting the shelf.

There will also be another Indian connect to the world’s most iconic yet controversial doll. In her 50th year, she will make her presence felt on Indian ramps as well.
