Oliver Stone’s new movie “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday and guess who showed up on the red carpet looking as beautiful as ever? Aishwarya Rai Bachchan of course!

The actress has not missed one single Cannes premiere so far! Ever since Ash’s role in the 2009 movie “The Pink Panther 2,” she has been a regular on the Cannes red carpet. Wednesday night the L’Oreal model sizzled in a gorgeous Elie Saab gown at the premiere of Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood.” Ash came solo because her hubby Abhishek Bachchan was busy working on a movie: “its been along day. finally back in my room and ready for some sleep. thanks to all those who sent me photos of the wife at Cannes. couldn’t be with her today as i’m filming in istanbul. but will join her there on the 17th to promote Raavan,” he tweeted.
And Thursday night Ash was joined by B-town beauty Deepika Padukone who is in Cannes as the guest of Chivas Regal, one of the movie festival’s partners. The “Housefull” actress will be wearing fashion designer Rohit Bal’s outfits during her stay. Donning a white and rust Rohit Bal saree, Deepika looked just as stunning as Ash who donned a black Armani Prive gown, satin shoes and shiny red lipstick.
Friday afternoon it was time for a whole new look for the premiere of Oliver Stone’s latest flick, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” starring Hollywood big shots Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Carey Mulligan, Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas and Susan Sarandon.

For the occasion, Ash wore a stunning pink Gucci gown and she took over the red carpet like only this former Miss World can! She charmed the photogs and fans went crazy trying to get a glimpse of the gorgeous actress! Sushmita Sen will appear in an item number in Sajid Khan’s film, Housefull, dancing to the remixed version of the famous song ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taisi’.

Confirmation of Sushmita’s appearance in the song – first made famous by Amitabh Bachchan in the 1981 blockbuster Lawaaris – puts persistent rumours of Aishwarya Rai’s appearance in the Housefull item number to rest.

While Aishwarya Rai was indeed approached to appear in the song, sources say she has turned the offer down, allegedly due to the link the song has with her father-in-law. She is also currently busy with a filming schedule including Guzaarish, Action Replay and Endhiran. Had Aish agreed, it would have been only her third item number appearance, following ‘Ishq Kamina’ (with Shahrukh Khan in the film Shakti – The Power) and ‘Kajra Re’ (with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in the film Bunty Aur Babli).

Aishwarya’s loss is Sushmita’s gain. Sush will appear alongside Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Arjun Rampal in a dance number choreographed by Farah Khan. The music will be remixed by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy, to add today’s flavour while retaining a classic feel.

When it comes to the Bachchans, it all runs in the family.

The news is that Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan will do an item number in comedian-turned-director Sajid Khan’s upcoming multistarrer, Housefull.

The song to which Ash will be gyrating is said to be dad-in-law Amitabh Bachchan’s hit number, Apni toh jaise taise, from his 1981 hit Laawaris.

The film’s producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, has bought the rights of the song, though Sajid Khan is mum. “I am neither confirming nor denying the news. We will make an announcement at the right time,” says Khan.

Of late, the Bachchans have been going out of their way to push the prospects of each other. Last week, when Abhishek Bachchan made his debut as a TV show host–Bingo on Colors channel–Big B was his first guest.

Obviously, Abhishek needs all the push.

Ash had also recently played the dutiful wife by getting emotional about how Abhi would make a great father in real life. Ash’s comment came as Paa, the Bachchan home-production, was about to be released.

“Everybody has been asking me if Abhi would be a good paa. He is very real and rooted and a great human being, which I can absolutely relate to,” she had said.

Coming back to the item number, the buzz is that Ash has allotted four days for the shooting. The song is expected to be shot on a grand scale with over 500 extras. She will shoot the number after wrapping up a portion of her upcoming film, Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, with Akshay Kumar.

Kareena Kapoor was reportedly approached for the song but she had no dates. This will be Ash’s third item number after Ishq kameena in Shakti and Kajra re in Bunty Aur Babli.

Ash also has many films opposite Abhi.

They are busy wrapping up Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, and gearing up for Rajeev Menon’s Dhun, which is said to be a remake of Amitabh-Jaya Bachchan starrer, Abhimaan.

Abhishek, on his part, never misses an opportunity to praise his paa or wife. “Who can ever forget sharing the screen space with Mr Amitabh Bachchan?” he said on Bingo, while recalling his first day of shoot for Sarkar, their first film together. Abhishek has also aggressively tweeted about how Big B donated his winnings on Bingo to charity.

Take it easy, Abhi

Abhishek has also been tweeting about how India doesn’t deserve a talent such as Amitabh Bachchan, after watching Rann. “We don’t deserve a talent like Mr Amitabh Bachchan. (I) Don’t think we can make movies to fit his talent,” were his exact words.

In a country like India that has produced luminaries from Satyajit Ray to A. R. Rahman, many movie buffs find Abhishek’s claim a little too stretched.

A fan shot back on Abhishek’s Twitter page. “It’s really lame to praise your own family in media, especially to this extent. You should let people praise him!” the fan said.

Abhishek has actually sparked off a debate on the issue–that India doesn’t deserve Big B–on Twitter. “Would love to hear everyone’s opinion on that,” he has tweeted. “My opinion? Well, its (sic) my Twitter page, so I have the freedom to write whatever I want and praise whoever I want. Don’t like it? Don’t read it,” Abhishek adds smugly.

A 12-year-old film finally got completed this week, thanks to its leading man Akshay Kumar’s determination not to have a single film in the cans.

This week after completing a schedule of Sajid Khan’s Housefull, Akshay Kumar sent Deepika Padukone packing and called producer-director Shabnam Kapoor to London to complete the long-pending Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ka Chaila, now called Helloo India.

Shabnam Kapoor flew to London and shot with Akshay Kumar for almost a week before he flew out to Italy Thursday for the next schedule of Housefull.

With the completion of Purab Ki Laila… which also stars Namrata Shirodkar and Suniel Shetty, Akshay prides himself on being the only leading man in Bollywood who has no films in the cans.

Interestingly this would be only the second film in Akshay’s career directed by a female. Sangharsh directed by Tanuja Chandra was the first.
