There will be fireworks this Diwali as Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Action Replay comes up against Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal 3.
Two weeks later, on November 19, Kumar’s Patiala House takes on Bachchan’s Guzaarish. And then there’s Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 that arrives to wean audiences away from these two big-ticket desi movies.
The new Potter movie will unleash with at least 700 prints in regular, Imax and 32 format in English, and also Hindi, Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions. Warner Bros Pictures India will be unleashing at least 700 prints in India.
Denzel Diaz, Deputy Managing Director (Theatrical), Warner Bros. Pictures India, says that the number of prints could go up to 1000.
“The first Potter film released with around 150 prints. But the fan base since has grown by at least 25 per cent. We’re expecting a bigger draw since this is the last chapter in the series and is now in 3D too,” says Diaz.
Not worried
Siddharth Roy Kapoor, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures, that is co-producing and distributing Guzaarish, is not perturbed by the Potter mania: “We’ll go with a huge number of prints too, given that this is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film toplining Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. Their earlier film, Jodhaa-Akbar, that we co-produced and distributed too, was a big hit.”
Vinod Mirani, managing editor, Box Office India, agrees that Potter is a big brand but doesn’t think our filmmakers should be worried. “There’s always curiosity for new films,” he asserts.
Fellow trade analyst Amod Mehra however believes that given the huge sale of Potter books, the movie should make a dent in the collections of the two Hindi films, even though the Order Of The Pheonix didn’t do too well.
“The 3D format is an advantage,” he says. “Also, two weeks after Diwali isn’t great timing. Last year, both London Dreams and Aladin bombed. And Hrithik’s last film, Kites, flopped too. Having back-to-back releases isn’t a good strategy for Akshay.”
Interestingly, Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince released on the same day as Akshay Kumar’s Tashan. It remains to be seen if the Khiladi Kumar will escape The Deathly Hallows this time.

Reports say Ash has refused to dub for the film because she’s not happy with the way the scenes have turned out.

However, some insiders have rubbished the reports saying the shoot stalled because Shah was busy promoting London Dreams. Now that that movie is out, he’s ready to give Action Replay his full attention again.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may be garnering a lot of attention by featuring in the beauty soap advertisement with hubby Abhishek, but she is troubled these days. The actress is fuming because of director Vipul Shah, who has taken undue advantage with her role in ‘Action Replay’. And so now the Bachchan Bahu, who had every reason to be happy, has refused to dub for the film.
The latest Bollywood news comes as a surprise because the actress is known to be a thorough professional. However, she took the harsh decision after seeing the rushes of the film in which her role seems ignoble. The film also stars Vipul Shah’s favourite star – Akshay Kumar.

Although sources close to Ash have said that Vipul Shah’s commitment to ‘London Dreams’ stalled ‘Action Replay’, and that the actress is not being difficult but insiders say that things are far from normal. The green eyed beauty is seeing red.

Earlier there was a buzz that Aishwarya Rai had allegedly rejected a song composed by Pritam from Vipul Shah’s ‘Action Replay’. Then came the news that the actress had refused to dub for ‘Action Replay’, after seeing the rushes. All these have ended by giving the director a pain in the head.

Vipul Shah rubbishes these news as baseless rumours. He has been deeply effected with such rumours and he is now concerned about his relationship with Aishwarya. “The sort of rumours rising now can damage my relationship with her. She has been my friend for a long time and I am afraid I will have fallout with her,” said Vipul.

The filmmaker clarifies that the film has not yet completed its shooting and there is no scope for rushes and dubbing. Beside, he has not even seen the ‘edit’ of the film. “’Action Replay’ is in sync sound, so dubbing is totally out of the question. Besides, I have been busy for ‘London Dreams’; Aishwarya has been busy shooting ‘Ravana’ and ‘Guzaarish’. She has been travelling a lot so we didn’t even have time to take ‘Action Replay’ forward. What is the logic behind these rumours then?” he asked.

Vipul also dismissed the rumours concerning the Pritam’s song stating that it was him who had rejected the song thrice.

The last shooting schedule of Action Replay is expected to roll in December or January.

The latest buzz in town is that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is not too happy with the way her film Action Replay, with producer- director Vipul Shah, has turned out.

She apparently saw the rushes and didn’t like quite a bit of the film and is therefore dilly-dallying for dubbing dates. But another rumour suggests that Shah had wasted her dates as he was focusing on promotion of London Dreams and will now have to wait a while.

Don’t know how true either rumours are but like they say – equations change every Friday in Bollywood. And now that London Dreams has flopped, Ash sure has the upper hand.

Filmmaker Vipul Shah says he is worried about his friendship with Aishwarya Rai who is working in his film Action Replay as people are making “systematic attempts to destroy” their relationship.

“Aishwarya is a very respectable professional. It hurts to see how her sheer hard work is ridiculed to build one spicy story by the media. She has been a soft target. And the sort of rumours rising now can damage my relationship with her. She has been my friend for a long time and I am afraid I will have a fallout with her,” Shah told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

“There are certain people who are making systematic attempts to destroy my relationship with Aishwarya. There are gossip mongers who are spreading baseless rumours that she has refused to dub for Action Replay after seeing the rushes. But none of this is true,” he added.

Shah gives three reasons to prove that all the rumours are baseless.

“Firstly, when the shooting of the film has not been completed, where’s the question of the rushes and dubbing? Secondly, I haven’t even seen the ‘edit’ of the film. After the shoot completes, it will take at least two and a half months to put it in order for a final cut; so there is no need for dubbing at the moment.

“And lastly, Action Replay is in sync sound, so dubbing is totally out of the question. Besides, I have been busy for London Dreams; Aishwarya has been busy shooting Ravana and Guzaarish. She has been travelling a lot so we didn’t even have time to take Action Replay forward. What is the logic behind these rumours then?” he added.

This apart, there were also rumours that Aishwarya had repeatedly rejected one of music composer Pritam Chakraborty’s song for the film. But Shah denies it.

“It was I who had rejected Pritam’s song thrice, not Aishwarya. The song was for her entry in the film and I wanted to crack a big song. I never allow my actors to my music recording studio – then from where have these rumours come out from?” he asked in an agitated tone.

Shah, who made hits like Singh Is Kinng and Namastey London, is yet to shoot the last leg of the movie, which also features actor Akshay Kumar and Neha Dhupia.

“The last schedule of the film is still pending. We have planned to shoot it in December or January. Currently I am doing the recce for the locations,” he said.

Filming of Vipul Shah helmed/produced period drama, Action Replay, headlining Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai has been stalled.

Vipul Shah has terminated crew members as the project has been delayed for multiple reasons. He plans to shoot the remaining two songs with the help of director’s assistants.

“The production house handed the termination letters to the assistant directors and other crew members. Due to non-availability of dates from the lead pair, the film has been delayed. The production house was handing over the monthly checks amounting to lakhs of rupees to the crew members in spite of no shoot happening,” a source from the production unit told Mid-Day.

Earlier this month, in a statement to Mumbai Mirror Shah said three songs remained to be shot with Aishwarya but, due to a delay in Mani Ratnam’s Raavana, she is unable to give him dates.

“Yes, what you have heard is true. I need about a fortnight from Aishwarya to shoot the three songs. I’m sure she’s as eager to complete the film as I am. Unfortunately, Raavana has taken far more of her time than she had expected. Besides, she is also shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, so I have no option, but to wait,” Vipul told MumbaiMirror on August 14.

Now Vipul does not put the blame on the lead pair’s heads but confirms the delay.

“I have given the termination letters since their contract ended. They had other projects to move on to. The delay in shoot is not because of the actors. They both are extremely co-operative and are willing to give me alternate dates. In fact, we will be shooting the song soon, probably in November.”

He acknowledges that the delay in the release of his musical drama, London Dreams, starring Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan has disrupted schedules.

“The delay in the shooting is due to my commitments to London Dreams. I was initially supposed to release the movie on August 14, but due to multiplex strike, I decided to delay it. Now that the movie is releasing October 30 and I am busy with the promotions of the same. I am not able to shoot for Action Replay,” he added.

Action Replay is a period drama set in the 1970s with the story that runs backwards in time. Both Aishwarya and Akshay have two looks in the film – contemporary and old age. For their old age look the actors have to undergo lengthy makeup schedules with Hollywood makeup artist, Paul.
