THE BACHCHAN Bahu and winner of the Padmashri Award, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, seems all set to play her part as Sita like a perfectionist in Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming film, Ravana. Ash has been cast opposite her dear hubby, Abhishek Bachchan, in the film.

Those who saw her during the shooting of this film on the banks of the river ‘Hoogly’ in Kolkata, said that the actress truly looked like the modern version of Goddess Sita in her maroon sari with a black sleeveless top and hardly any ornaments to adorn her. Ash’s Sita look has been created by noted designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Drona reminds me of my childhood: Aishwarya

October 5th, 2008

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai says that Drona, in which hubby Abhishek Bachchan plays the title role, reminds her of her childhood days.

“Drona is a film that is rarely made in Bollywood. Not only will kids enjoy the film, elders too will revisit their childhood fantasies while watching the movie. Even I was reminded of my childhood days – when my world used to revolve around fairy tales like the stories of Amar Chitra Katha and the horses, angels, knights and magic in it,” Aishwarya told reporters here Friday.

Aishwarya, the brand ambassadress of Longines, was here for the press conference of Longines Sports Watch collection.

Commenting on Abhishek’s performance in Drona, she said: “If you are asking a wife to rate her husband, then I will tend to get partial. But if you are asking an actor to comment on another, then I will say that Abhishek is a dedicated actor and knows his job well.”

Mani Ratnam to sign dream deal

August 3rd, 2008

Mani Ratnam’s next biggie would have Vikram and Aishwarya sharing screen space. Now we have more news about Mani Ratnam’s next mega project.

Insiders say Mani Ratnam is on the verge of signing the biggest deal ever in the history of South Indian movies between his own production company, Madras Talkies and Anil Ambani’s Reliance Big Picture Entertainment. Sources say the deal to acquire the rights to the film’s negatives runs a huge figure amounting to Rs. 120 crores. The film will be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and the deal factors in all the three versions.

Mani Ratnam has been working on this three language film-script since he wrapped up Guru in 2007. Reports say that the star couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will play the couple on screen as well, with Govinda in a negative role. Vikram will star in the Telugu and Tamil versions, with Aishwarya as heroine in all three languages.

Prithiviraj is a bad man!

July 25th, 2008

Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming film is a bilingual to be made in Tamil and Hindi. It is reported that while Vikram will star in the Tamil version, Abhishek Bachchan will star in the Hindi version.

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is expected to be the heroine in both films. An interesting development with this project is that Prithiviraj has been assigned to play a very important role in the film — that of a villain.

Though Prithiviraj plays the hero in most films, he is no stranger to playing villain. His performance in Kana Kandaen was much appreciated by the audience. He literally stole the show in the film with his performance.

“I am excited about working in a Mani Ratnam film. But I can’t say anything about the role yet,” says a happy Prithviraj.

Sanjay Dutt will replace South superstar Vikram in Mani Ratnam’s Next, which features star couple Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The film, based on real life characters, is an intense love story, a genre that Mani has not dabbled with in the past. Interestingly, the film pairs Sanjay Dutt and Aishwarya, not Abhishek and Aishwarya, as is widely assumed.

Vikram earlier played lead in Aparichit (2005), the Hindi version of of south film Anniyan (2005).

The sudden change, industry insiders claim, was dictated by the less than stellar showing of Abhishek – Aishwarya starrer Sarkar Raj at the box office.
