Rajni lovingly calls Aishwarya ‘Tamila’

The world fondly calls her Ash, but superstar Rajnikanth affectionately calls Aishwarya Rai `Tamila`. The stunning beauty, who has confessed that she likes to be addressed as Aishwarya rather than Ash, seems to have no qualms about Rajini calling her `Tamila`. The story goes something like this- Aishwarya managed to learn Tamil while shooting for `Robot` and dubbed her lines quite conveniently. This impressed the veteran superstar a lot who gave her a new name- `Tamila`. We know that the Bachchan’s too prefer calling their bahu by her full name and not Ash.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s fans went out of control in Kolkata where she travelled to over the weekend to promote her forthcoming film.

The doors and windows of the venue were broken down by people who went berserk to get a glimpse of the superstar. However, the security guards made sure that things did not go out of control and checked the mob before they could encircle Ash.

Interestingly on the 19th of this month, the date when Guzaarish releases, Ash will complete 16 years of winning the Miss World crown. 2010 has been eventful for Ash as she recently delivered the blockbuster Robot that had the iconic Rajnikanth and she also won acclaim for two other big films.

Aishwarya Rai: Does her Robot role justify her talent ?

Rajnikanth starrer Endhiran (Robot or Robo) has rammed into the theatres with an explosive, box office shattering punch and has gone on to rewrite history. From what one hears about the Chennai crowd going berserk over Rajnikanth posters, the film, surely, has sort of stamped its undisputed dominance on the silver screen.
Despite the lavishness of the costumes, the opulence of the sets and the grandeur of the large-scaled technology, one feels that Aishwarya Rai merely wasted away her talent for this movie which had only Rajnikanth written all over it.
It’s true that the monumental success of Endhiran marks another megahit in Aishwarya’s CV but it can’t be denied that at a phase when Aish should do more women-centric roles, the portrayal of Sana in this film will not bring any laurels or critical acclaim for her.
It may be argued that the first-time teaming up of Rajni and Aish is a big welcome from the cine goers, still Ash had nothing more to do here than to change attires in every 20 seconds and look utterly gorgeous.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s latest release “Endhiran” hit theatres yesterday. The film stars South superstar Rajnikanth and Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles.

“Endhiran” is the most expensive Indian film till date. Some of her upcoming films include “Robot” a Hindi adaptation of “Endhiran”, “Action Replayy” opposite Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish” opposite Hrithik Roshan. Each of these films has a budget of around 40-50 crores if not more.

Aishwarya added “I don’t see the budget when I sign a film. Some movies just happen to have a big budget. What attracts me to a project is the director, the story and my character. Big or small, I am equally excited or nervous during the release.”

The two worlds of Aishwarya Rai

As the star of Endhiran, India’s most expensive movie and her latest, Aishwarya Rai talks to Kevin Maher about bridging the cultural gap between Bollywood and Hollywood, and how her high-profile celebrity marriage is no publicity stunt.

Like some glittering celestial orb, frozen in the firmament, Aishwarya Rai is caught between the powerful pull of two worlds. In one, she is the Bollywood Queen, daughter of a nation, a former Miss World turned movie icon and now married to India’s golden son, Abhishek Bachchan. When she kisses on screen she ignites a national controversy (more on that later). And her every move is tracked by a ravenous and sometimes savage media (fake reports of her death in a car crash caused countrywide consternation in 2006).

Aishwarya Rai: Will Endhiran and Action Replayy erase Raavan memories?

Aishwarya Rai is all set to ram into the theatres this season with two of her films ready for a release. First up is ‘Endhiran’ (Robot) which stars the South Indian God Rajnikanth. Endhiran is the costliest film ever made in India and relies heavily on gadgets and technology.
The film shall be unleashed on the last leg of September and is carrying the burden of heavy expectations. Apart from this bilingual flick, Aishwarya has ‘Action Replayy’ studded for a Diwali release. The film takes a walk into the 70s era and shall remind us of the painfully sweet good, old days evoking huge amount of nostalgia.
It stars Akshay Kumar in the male lead and is the biggie of this festive season. Given that both the films release around the festive occasions, there is a huge chance of a terrific box office response.
But will these films erase the agonising memories of Raavan debacle earlier this year? Aishwarya, at least, is bound to gain. The same can’t be said of Abhishek who is still reeling under the devastation caused by his ten headed avatar.

Aishwarya Rai, Rajinikanth popping together!

August 30th, 2010

Age is just a number! When it comes to dedication towards work, Rajnikanth who is sixty can even try to learn a new dance form. For Endhiran, the superstar did the funk style dance called ‘popping’ with Aishwarya Rai.

What is popping? It is a kind of street dance which is based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body. Sounds tough, doesn’t it! But Ash and Rajini were game for it.

Yes, apart from Rajini, choreographer Remo D’Souza taught the dance to Ash as well. Like Rajini, the actress too is trying out popping for the first time. But they were quick to grasp the steps and the end result amazed all.

Salman Khan-Aishwarya Rai clash averted?

August 28th, 2010

By Jilawatan

The excitement of actors and ex-flames Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan clashing, at least in the theaters, would have to be kept on hold for some other day. Buzz is that Ash’s film with Rajnikanth in the lead was initially supposed to be released on the same day as Salman’s action film. However, Ash’s film has now been moved to a later day.

Says a trade observer, “The makers of the Ash-Rajnikanth starrer have been holding the release plans of the film pretty close to their heart. However the trade was getting enough hints that the film would arrive along with Salman’s film. With the festive season at its peak around this time, both the films wanted to make the best of this period.”

The latest twist in the tale has turned out to be quite surprising. Though one waits to get further confirmation from the makers themselves, it is being said that the release date has been moved to accommodate certain patchwork required in Ash’s film.
