CELEBS GALORE
Look who arrived looking gorgeous as ever at Neelam and Sameer Soni’s wedding reception yesterday? It’s Aishwarya Rai. The lady wore a dark pink back-less salwar suit and was without her dear hubby. While others who added Bollywood zing to the reception were Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and also Karan Johar.
SRK and Rani took some time out and were seen enjoying each other’s company and posing for photogs, but we can’t say the same for Ash and Rani. It seems the theme for the party was pink and white as most of the ladies walked in pink-coloured dresses. Rani was quite the cynosure of eyes; she looked lovely in pink and white ghagra-choli.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has always maintained a respectable relationship with megastar Amitabh Bachchan but the same cannot be said with ‘Bachchan bahu’ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The face-off started when Ash abandoned Aamir Khan’s project Mangal Pandey at the last minute. Then Aamir called up his good friend Rani Mukherjee, who finally appeared in the film.
Buzz up!
However, they finally patched up after so many years and that happened at the 10th wedding anniversary of Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle. Ash and Aamir had a cold war, since these years but now they have settled the issues.
Usually, Ash does not stay in any party for more than 10 minutes but when she came to know that Aamir and Kiran Rao are on their way, the beauty queen waited for them to reach the party. When the couple reached the party, Ash went forward and bonded with the actor like never before. They spoke warmly and discussed about Kiran’s upcoming movie Dhobi Ghat. After spending some time together, Aamir had to leave early. Soon after his exit, Ash also left the party.

That’s the question on everyone’s mind after watching the promo of ‘No One Killed Jessica’.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan received flak from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) who has taken to moral policing. The party has objected to the posters on BEST buses of her new film ‘Guzaarish’, which showcased her smoking a cigarette.
Interestingly, Rani Mukherjee is seen smoking in the promo of her forthcoming film ‘No One Killed Jessica’. The promos of the film released yesterday. Apparently Rani, who plays a journalist in the film that’s based on Jessica Lal murder case, has been shown in a completely different light.
Rani smokes and abuses in the film on which MNS might take an action. When we asked director Rajkumar Gupta if he foresees the promo creating trouble for Rani or his film, he said, “Yes Rani’s smoking scenes are there in the promo. But I don’t think Censor should have problem as they have certain categories, where they see in what context the element has been used. The promo is just out and I have been receiving good reactions from people.”

Close to two decades of constant media attention, yet she remains a glittering icon, more symbol than real, defined almost entirely by how she looks.
Aishwarya Rai has an ‘adjective’ problem. She is reportedly the highest paid actress in Indian cinema with her pick of the best roles, banners and directors. Each of her movies in 2010 — Raavan, Robot, the recently released Action Replayy, and soon to premiere Guzaarish — is a five-star production that most actresses can only dream about. This is the face that has launched a thousand magazine articles, and yet not one word in them reveals the woman behind that immaculate visage. Nearly two decades of constant media attention later, she remains a glittering icon, more symbolic than real, defined entirely by how she looks. “I don’t know of anyone who is crazy about Aishwarya,” says filmmaker and critic Paromita Vohra. “[Hers] is a sort of empirical or quantitative success, by virtue of ticking off all the correct surface qualities.” And that perfect ‘surface’ is all that everyone talks about.

Subhash Ghai: I would opt to cast Rekha herself. Why settle for a duplicate when the original is in front of you? She is a remarkable looker, a great actresss … And if not Rekha, I’d settle for a new face. None of the actress’ of today would fit the bill…

The first ‘bahu’ of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, may have competition back home from sis-in-law Shrima Rai, who won first runners-up at the Shrima Rai
Mrs India contest. We speak to the lady…
How did Mrs India happen?
I was busy with investment consulting for Standard Chartered, when I decided to send my portfolio to Gladrags. I was shortlisted and here I am.
All your family was there except Aishwarya. Why?
All my family was there to support me. Pa-in-law and mom-in-law were nervous, but Aditya was the most nervous! Ash could not come as she was busy shooting for her film, but that didn’t stop her from calling and messaging me.
Did you get some modelling tips from her?
Ash is a pro at walking the ramp and has won pageants too. She shared some tips with me regarding the walk and expressions, but the one important thing she told me was that I should forget about everything and just enjoy the experience. And that actually helped me a lot.
