Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai’s traditional outfits in the film Raavanan are finding many takers in Malaysia with Deepavali shopping at it’s peak.

The original outfits, long-sleeved salwar kameez (tunic) and chudidar pants, were created by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and imitations have flooded the shops here with many shopper’s asking for the Aishwarya masakali.

The suits have been in the market since early this year after the release of the movie but sales have peaked as Deepavali approaches, reported New Straits Time.

The salwar kameez also comes with transparent sleeves and multi-coloured dupattas (stoles) to suit the tastes of the individual shoppers.

Malaysia is home to 2.1 million ethnic Indians, a bulk of them are from Tamil Nadu and fans of Tamils films and film stars.

The Hindi version of the film Raavan failed to create magic at the box office, but Raavanan, in Tamil, became an instant hit in Malaysia.

After a long time, the Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was seen in a traditional Indian outfit at the 63 annual Cannes Film Festival.

Aishwariya Rai mesmerised everyone at the red carpet as she walked in Indian outfit with her husband Abhishek Bachchan during the premiere of ‘Outrage’.

Besides Abhishek, Aishwarya was also accompanied by her mother Vrinda Rai and team of ‘Raavan’.

Aish’s outfit switch

Aishwarya Rai was usually seen in western outfits more due to the rules of her brand L’Oreal. As per the rules, she must present herself in western outfit but this time she also showed her Indian side.

Being the face of international cosmetic giant L’Oreal, Aishwarya Rai just loves to flaunt a range of breath-taking gowns at Cannes every year. But to walk the red carpet for her film Raavan on Monday, she will go for an all Indian look. Super excited? We too!

And who else than designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who did her ‘Raavan’ outfits, to give the beautiful lady the traditional Indian look. As Aishwarya’s spokesperson tells an agency, “This time since ‘Raavan’ Red Carpet is also an occasion at Cannes, she planned to wear an Indian dress for the event. Her dress is designed by Sabyasachi.”

Yes, we all have been waiting for this to happen for so long. Aishwarya’s hideous parrot-green saree appearance at Cannes in the year 2003 is still fresh in the minds of many; fashion critics are still not ready to forgive her for that attire.

Making Black Even More Cool

aishwarya2When the Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai glided into Oprah Winfrey’s talk-show studio a couple months ago, she dazzled the audience with her grace and glamour. But her appearance also left some observers wondering why she had chosen to wear something as unusual as a black sari.

Few probably realize that designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who made Ms. Rai’s outfit, have been trying to persuade Indian women to reconsider black for several years now. And they have had some success, despite centuries of religious and cultural symbolism favoring bright colors — and the simple fact that black is the most uncomfortable color to wear in India’s searing heat.

The darker the fabric, the more light is absorbed and the hotter the wearer becomes.

But a new fabric treatment on the market may make Indian women, as well as millions of Middle Eastern women, corporate executives and anyone else wearing black in a sunny climate, feel cooler and perspire less.
